Description
Metal Structure Kaitai-Shou-Ki RX-178 Gundam Mk-II (A.E.U.G.) – Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam | Bandai Tamashii Nations
Experience the RX-178 Gundam Mk-II at an extraordinary new level with the Metal Structure Kaitai-Shou-Ki RX-178 Gundam Mk-II (A.E.U.G.) from Bandai Tamashii Nations. Inspired by Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, this ultra-premium completed collectible transforms the iconic Gundam Mk-II into an intricate mechanical masterpiece, revealing the complex engineering, internal frame, armor systems, and maintenance details hidden beneath its familiar exterior.
The Kaitai-Shou-Ki concept approaches a Mobile Suit through both “deconstruction” and “construction,” treating the Gundam not simply as a character design but as if it were an actual piece of advanced machinery. Approximately 2,500 individual parts are combined using materials selected for different areas of the model, creating an exceptionally dense mechanical appearance with realistic textures, layered structures, movable armor, and die-cast components.
Standing approximately 310 mm / 12.2 inches tall, the Gundam Mk-II is constructed from ABS, PVC, and die-cast metal. Its imposing size is complemented by extensive surface detailing and internal mechanical structures designed to reward close inspection from virtually every angle.
One of the centerpiece configurations is the High-Mobility Combat Mode, an original form created specifically for the Kaitai-Shou-Ki interpretation. In this configuration, the backpack thruster arrangement changes while armor panels throughout the Mobile Suit deploy to evoke a heat-dissipation sequence, giving the Gundam Mk-II an aggressive mechanical appearance unlike its conventional combat configuration.
The figure can also be transformed into its spectacular Full Maintenance Mode, showcasing one of the defining technological innovations of the Gundam Mk-II—the Movable Frame. Armor panels throughout the body open to expose the internal structure, while the chest section rises to reveal the spherical cockpit. The extensive opening armor and internal detailing provide a fascinating look at how Bandai imagines the Gundam Mk-II functioning as a real machine.
Mechanical details extend even into the lower legs. The internal frame incorporates an extension and retraction mechanism, with the thruster nozzle housing opening and closing in conjunction with the frame's movement. These interconnected mechanical features demonstrate the extraordinary engineering behind the Kaitai-Shou-Ki interpretation.
A dedicated maintenance display base greatly expands the presentation possibilities. The Gundam Mk-II can be mounted to the central support while articulated maintenance arms positioned on either side create the appearance of a Mobile Suit undergoing inspection or servicing inside a hangar.
Integrated lighting functions in both the Gundam Mk-II and its display base enhance the maintenance-bay atmosphere and emphasize the model's immense mechanical presence. Included miniature figures further reinforce the sense of scale, transforming the display into a detailed Universal Century maintenance scene rather than simply a traditional figure presentation.
The base also incorporates catapult-inspired components, allowing collectors to recreate the dramatic Mobile Suit launch sequences associated with Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam. The combination of the illuminated base, miniature personnel, maintenance equipment, and massive Gundam Mk-II creates an impressive centerpiece display.
The RX-178 comes equipped with its signature combat equipment, including the Beam Rifle, Hyper Bazooka, Vulcan Pod System, Shield, two spare E-Packs, E-Pack joint parts, spare Bazooka cartridges, and multiple beam effect parts.
Bandai has also incorporated original Kaitai-Shou-Ki weapon configurations. The Beam Rifle can be customized with additional equipment, including configurations that alter its appearance and functionality, giving collectors even more ways to explore the mechanical interpretation of the Gundam Mk-II.
Special attention has been given to the machine's history as a former Titans Mobile Suit captured and adopted by the A.E.U.G. Selected undersides of the armor retain deep navy-blue coloring associated with the Titans, while the shield incorporates detailing referencing the Titans markings being painted over after the Gundam Mk-II changed hands.
The modular connection system also allows the shield to be mounted in alternate positions, including configurations inspired by memorable scenes from the anime. These details give the collectible additional depth for longtime Zeta Gundam fans who recognize the history behind the RX-178.
The complete set includes the RX-178 Gundam Mk-II main body, Beam Rifle, Hyper Bazooka, Vulcan Pod System, Shield, two spare E-Packs, E-Pack joint parts, spare Bazooka cartridges, dedicated display base, multiple beam effect parts, and a complete set of miniature figures.
With approximately 2,500 components, die-cast construction, extensive armor deployment, an exposed Movable Frame, multiple mechanical configurations, integrated lighting, maintenance equipment, miniature figures, and a massive dedicated display base, the Metal Structure Kaitai-Shou-Ki RX-178 Gundam Mk-II (A.E.U.G.) represents one of Bandai Tamashii Nations' most ambitious interpretations of the legendary Mobile Suit.
