Build the legendary Mobile Suit that started it all with the Entry Grade 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam (ECOPLA) from Mobile Suit Gundam by Bandai Hobby. This special environmentally focused version combines the accessible engineering of Bandai’s Entry Grade RX-78-2 with the distinctive concept behind Bandai’s recycled and alternative-material Gunpla initiatives.

Piloted by Amuro Ray, the RX-78-2 Gundam is the iconic Earth Federation prototype Mobile Suit from the original Mobile Suit Gundam. Its battles against Char Aznable and the Principality of Zeon during the One Year War established the RX-78-2 as one of the most recognizable mecha designs in anime history.

Bandai’s Entry Grade series is designed to deliver an easy building experience without sacrificing articulation or appearance. The standard EG RX-78-2 uses a carefully engineered parts layout, excellent color separation, and Touch Gate construction, allowing most parts to be removed from the runners by hand without nippers.

Assembly is snap-fit, so glue is not required. Bandai also engineered the RX-78-2 so its basic color scheme and even details such as the dark outlines around the camera eyes can be reproduced through parts separation and molded shadows rather than relying on extensive stickers or painting.

Despite its beginner-friendly construction, the model offers an impressive range of articulation throughout the arms, legs, torso, and other joints, allowing builders to recreate classic poses from the original Mobile Suit Gundam.

The RX-78-2’s classic Beam Rifle and Shield provide its instantly recognizable combat configuration, making the completed model an excellent representation of the original Gundam at a compact 1/144 scale.

The ECOPLA concept adds another dimension for collectors interested in Bandai’s sustainability initiatives. Bandai has increasingly explored recycled and alternative materials for Gunpla, including recycled plastics from discarded runners as well as newer materials incorporating biomass sources such as wood powder and eggshells.
